Mission and Vision
Beyond simply providing users with access to advanced quantum computers, QLab's mission is to accelerate practical quantum applications by advancing knowledge, experiential learning and collaborations across disciplines. To advance this mission, QLab:
- Offers training (bootcamps, workshops, classes) in practical quantum computing to students, faculty, staff, and external researchers;
- Provides privileged access to IonQ's trapped-ion quantum computers;
- Advances research in early applications of quantum computers and quantum networks;
- Connects researchers from multiple disciplines with interest in these novel fields;
- Mentors tomorrow's experts in quantum computing, its application and technical realization.
The Next Generation
QLab has a heavy focus on helping to grow a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible skilled quantum workforce. QLab supports student groups like the University of Maryland's Undergraduate Quantum Association and helps teachers integrate using real quantum computers into their curriculum like the Quantum Machine Learning program.
